Dirt Food Packaging

Dirt Food™ offers a wide variety of different superfood snacks and spices. Their products promote a healthy diet, clean living and an all-new, tasty way to get the nutrients your body needs each day!

While working with their team on all new branding, I also had the privilege of updating their product packaging. Both the Superfood Dirt Spice (Coffee Mix) and their hand-mixed Granola were redesigned from top to bottom. Custom Funko POP

For my brother's 21st birthday, I wanted to make him something really special! My family has always been great at finding or making extremely unique gifts! As he and I both have a background in Toy and Packaging design, I wanted to put together a Funko® Pop® character in his likeness.... complete with a custom package and everything! This project was super fun and the toy ended up living on the shelf above his desk for all to see!

Target® Gift Cards

Each year Target releases a series of "limited edition" gift cards which include some sort of toy or collectable in addition to the card itself. I had the opportunity to work on both of the ones shown above! These included a HEXBUG® toy, branding, and instruction documentation. Not only was it fun working with the group from Target®, but it was amazing to see these hit shelves during the holidays!

HEXBUG® NANO JUNIOR

HEXBUG® has always focused on bringing a fun and educational experience to kids of all ages... but what they have just started to explore is the playtime of toddlers!

The new Nano Junior is a scaled-up Nano built out of a baby-safe chewable rubber material! Also, despite it's humongous size, this little bug can scamper around just like the original nano! 

With the design of this package, I really wanted to play off of the unique shape of the bug, while also incorporating a fun kid's drawing look to the illustrations.

PURINA® PET TOYS

While working with HEXBUG® I was given some unbelievable opportunities to work along amazing companies and individuals! Purina was just one of many of these partnerships!

We were contacted by the pet food icon, Purina, to develop a brand new type of toys for pets of all sizes. Among this family we created three different sized toys which each held numerous Party Mix treats. As your cat chases and plays with each toy, they are "treated" to encourage more playtime!

This package was especially fun to work on as I had the opportunity to photoshop the cat image on the front as well as the placement of the product within the clamshell!

Nestle, Friskies, Purina

HEXBUG® NANO NITRO

The HEXBUG® Nano® has proven to be the most successful toy ever designed by the company. They can be found around the world in Toys-R-Us, Target, and many others!

In 2016 the Nano got an upgrade! The newly released Nano Nitro not only could climb higher and run faster, but the new packaging was pimped out with an entirely new color scheme! This project was a blast to work on and came out looking top notch!

HEXBUG® Battle Ground

HEXBUG® has never been shy of new and exciting toys each year! In 2016 we released the newly re-designed Battle Spider and Battle Tarantula. These toys included infrared lights and sensors that allowed kids to play a miniature version of laser tag with their friends!

My goal while working along side the design team was the create colorful and fun boxes that these bugs would be sold in. These packages laid out each of the cool new features that kids were able to explore!

BATTLEBOTS

While working with HEXBUG® I was given the opportunity to work along side top level designers and planners from ABC. By partnering with the TV show BattleBots, our goal was to create a new line of robotic/remote controlled toys that exactly mirrored each of the robots you know and love from the show!

My primary task while working with the other members of the HEXBUG® Design Team was to create an impactful, eye-catching package to house these exciting new toys! Each box included different robots as well as the elements you need to create your own Arena in your living room!

VEX® Robotics by HEXBUG®

HEXBUG® and VEX® Robotics teamed up to launch a brand new line of construction sets. Now kids can actually build their favorite HEXBUG®! These sets all come with a series of connecting plastic pieces that can be snapped together to build all four different sets. Once the bug is complete it can even be remote controlled to walk or roll around the room.

This project became my baby for 4-6 months! I was set in charge of designing most everything from the ground up. The packaging, instruction manuals, website and advertising consumed many of my hours while on the clock at HEXBUG®.

This project helped me understand every aspect that is required when creating and forming a brand. I learned how all elements should support one another, no matter what medium is being used. All in all I feel this product will be a giant success for HEXBUG®!

TONY HAWK'S® CIRCUIT BOARDS™

Partnering with Tony Hawk HEXBUG® has released an entirely new generation of finger board toys! Not only can kids roll around the table on their finger-sized skateboard... but now they can mount a powered axle on the bottom and turn their seemingly ordinary fingerboard into a motorized remote control skateboard! Perform tricks, grind down the rails or jump off of the orange translucent ramps... these remote control skateboards are sure to be the next big craze for kids of all ages!

As a member of the HEXBUG® Design Team, I got to work on the entire line of Circuit Boards™ packaging. Together we branded these remote control skateboards with one of Tony Hawk's signature ramp jumps, a blue wood grain pattern to mimic a brand new skate deck and diagonal skewed type to symbolize movement and a entirely new direction for finger boards.

Nano V2™

As a member of the HEXBUG® design team I was given the opportunity to build the nano V2™ brand from the ground up. This included an entire line of product packaging. The play sets came in all shapes and sizes, each with their own unique window or plastic blister showcasing the toys.

We started with initial sketches of what the packaging could look like, moved on to the dielines and structure of each package and later dressed each one with its own artwork and product renders.

Aquabot™ 2.0 Bowl

HEXBUG® released an underwater robotic fish known as Aquabot™ 2.0. The Aquabot™ brand originated the year before with the first generation of fish but was later redesigned when the latest generation was released.

As a part of a team effort we built this package from the ground up. Starting with the dielines, I was able to establish the structure of the package then dressed the box with our Aquabot™ 2.0 artwork and product renders. The window on the front of the box showcased the product itself along with the bowl that was included in the package. Information on the back of the box demonstrated how the toy works and what key features make the Aquabot™ 2.0 fish the right choice for any kid.

Tagamoto™

Tagamoto™ is one of the many toy lines that is under the HEXBUG® brand. Tagamoto™ incorporates the existing vibration technology from the HEXBUG® nano® toy and powers a small computerized car. The cars come in various shapes, sizes and colors and not only runs around on their own but also read barcodes on the track for added sound and light effects.

The packaging was designed for all retail toy stores and resellers. We worked as a team to pick colors, render graphics and layout each package to pop off of the shelf. Each set comes with a variety of track pieces and alternating car body styles.

TiltGear

BulkX, a distributor of cell phone accessories and gadgets, contacted me to design packaging for their latest line of electronics. TiltGear was created for retail stores that sold cell phone chargers, backup batteries or USB cables.

This design was focused around a simple orange design with a tech feel. The backer card incorporated a unique diecut window through the cardboard that revealed the product from both the front and back of the product. TiltGear works for both Apple®, Android® and Windows® phones.

MOKA

This distribution company known as BulkX was in need of a new packaging for their latest cell phone accessories known as Moka.

Their power bricks came in various sizes and colors and allowed for any USB powered cell phone to be charged at any time. Basically you can carry a pre-charged Moka power supply with you and when your phone is about to die all you have to do is simply plug your charger into it and you’re good to go.

The matte black packaging sleeves not only gave each battery pack a premium appearance, but it also laid out all of the tech specs the user should know before buying. We created an instruction sheet as well to accompany each product.

Hot Wheels® Car

My grandfather owns a 1986 white El Camino with maroon racing stripes. He has always been very proud of his car so for his birthday one year I wanted to make something special for him. I bought an 86 El Camino Hot Wheels® car, painted it white, cut maroon vinyl stripes, and used my packaging skills to create his very own custom Hot Wheels® car.

I recycled the existing plastic blister to hold the car in place and printed out a glossy card stock backer card for the package. After gluing it all together it was looked very convincing and of course put a giant smile on his face.

Transformers® 4 Movie Toys

HEXBUG® was given the opportunity to design motorized toys for the latest Transformers® movie that hit theaters in 2014. We built off our existing HEXBUG® Warriors™ product design but manipulated the characters and colors to look like the ever-popular Autobots or Decepticons! We worked as a team to pick colors, render graphics and layout each package to pop off of the shelf.

HEXBUG® XL

The HEXBUG® robotic creatures have always been a top toy among kids... but what is even better than a small robot that you can remote control?... How about a giant XL version that is at least 60% larger!

The XL Spider™ and Scarab™ packages were one of the very first packaging projects I was given when I started at HEXBUG®. I started with the overall structure of the hexagon shaped box and alter dressed it with artwork once I knew the structure would survive shipping and time on the shelf. The giant windows on either side, as well as the top of the box allowed for great visibility of exactly what you would be getting when you purchase one of our XL bugs!
